Morocco to equip indigenous APCs with Israeli-made Elbit turrets

The Moroccan Army has selected Israeli defence company Elbit Systems to supply new turrets for its WhAP 8x8 armoured personnel carriers, developed in collaboration with India’s Tata Corporation.

As part of a modernisation programme, the original 30mm guns on the APCs will be replaced with 105mm and 120mm barrels—similar to those mounted on the Sabra main battle tanks. The new turrets will be customised to suit Morocco’s diverse terrain conditions, Caliber.Az reports citing Israeli media.

This marks another significant defence deal between Morocco and Elbit Systems. Previously, the Israeli firm secured a $370 million contract to deliver a batch of ATMOS 2000 self-propelled howitzers to the Moroccan armed forces.
