09 August 2026 16:31
A majority of Americans support stricter government regulation of social media, particularly regarding children’s access to online platforms, according to a poll conducted by Reuters and Ipsos.
The poll found that 61% of respondents favored tighter oversight of companies that operate online platforms. The measure was supported by both Republicans and Democrats.
At the same time, 70% of those surveyed said they enjoy using social media, while 35% described it as “stressful” for them. Some 66% supported laws requiring platforms to verify that users have reached the age of 16.
The poll was conducted from July 29 to August 3 and surveyed 4,505 people. The margin of error was 2 percentage points.
