Munich rations water until August amid heatwave

Authorities in Munich have imposed restrictions on the use of drinking water as a prolonged heatwave and persistent drought fuel concerns over potential water shortages, according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ).

Under the new measures, residents are prohibited from filling private swimming pools and other recreational water reservoirs with drinking water, Caliber.Az reports per German media.

The city has also banned the watering of gardens between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., with exemptions for agricultural land and cemeteries. Irrigating private lawns and other green spaces is likewise prohibited.

The restrictions are due to remain in place until at least August 1, although city authorities warned they could be extended if dry weather and below-average rainfall continue.
