Musk claims he paid more than anyone ever has after $10 billion tax bill

Elon Musk, the American entrepreneur and chief executive of SpaceX and Tesla, says he paid more than $10 billion in taxes this year, claiming it is the highest amount paid by any individual in history.

“In one year, I paid more than $10 billion in taxes, more than anyone in history,” he wrote on the social network X.

Musk added that the eventual tax burden on his estate could be significantly higher, pointing to inheritance taxation.

The entrepreneur noted that after his death, there will be another 40% tax on his estate. The billionaire believes he will have to pay trillions of dollars in taxes when it's all said and done.

Earlier, Musk quipped on X that his tax burden is so large that the IRS has a hard time processing it.

"They had to update the software to get it processed," the businessman wrote adding that there were "too many digits."

The remarks come as Musk continues to top global wealth rankings. According to Forbes magazine’s ranking released in March, he was listed as the world’s richest individual for a second consecutive year, with an estimated net worth of $839 billion, more than double the previous year’s figure of $342 billion.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos ranked fourth with $224 billion, while Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin placed second and third with $257 billion and $237 billion, respectively.
