Musk's DOGE operation shakes up federal workforce Digital Service Under Scrutiny
Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has infiltrated over 20 federal bodies, alarming civil servants and lawmakers.
What began as a casual conversation last September has evolved into a radical operation aimed at overhauling the U.S. government’s bureaucracy, Caliber.Az reports per US media.
Musk, known for his bold ventures, has targeted government inefficiencies with the same tactics he used to overhaul Twitter. His team has embedded itself in key digital infrastructures, gaining access to critical databases like the IRS and Social Security Administration. The focus has been on controlling the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), pushing for resignations, and reducing the federal workforce.
The creation of DOGE has rapidly gained momentum, with Musk’s allies, including former Trump administration officials, advancing the plan. Agencies such as USAID have been effectively shut down. The operation’s secrecy has caught Democrats and civil servants off guard, with Musk's team undermining contracts, pressuring staff, and disrupting government functions.
The U.S. Digital Service (USDS), originally created to address issues with healthcare.gov, became a prime target. With President Trump’s blessing, Musk has been granted unprecedented freedom to implement sweeping changes, including budget cuts, workforce reductions, and reorganizations.
As the operation continues, its long-term impact on federal agencies is uncertain, but its shockwaves are already being felt across the government.
