Myanmar earthquake: Over 800 homes damaged in China's Ruili city

29 March 2025 14:59

A powerful earthquake that hit Myanmar on March 28 caused significant damage in Ruili City, located in southwest China’s Yunnan Province near the Myanmar border.

As of March 29 afternoon, local authorities reported that 847 households in Ruili had their homes damaged. The city, situated about 300 km from the epicenter, has seen the impact affect a total of 2,840 residents, Caliber.Az reports, citing Chinese media.

In response to the disaster, the Ruili municipal government has deployed task forces to assist with relief efforts. These teams are focused on monitoring geological hazards, inspecting water conservancy projects, repairing electrical infrastructure, and conducting emergency road repairs to restore normalcy. Local officials have assured the public that the city's water, electricity, transportation, and communication systems have all been restored to full functionality.

Two people in Ruili sustained minor injuries due to the quake and have since received medical treatment. The city government is continuing to assess the full extent of the damage suffered by residents.

Meanwhile, the situation in Myanmar remains dire. The earthquake, which caused widespread devastation, has resulted in at least 1,002 confirmed deaths, with 2,376 others reported injured and 30 still missing.
