NATO boosts missile defence after Iranian missile near Türkiye

NATO member states have announced an increase in missile defence measures after intercepting a missile launched from Iran that was heading toward Turkish airspace.

According to a representative of the NATO Supreme Headquarters in Europe, O’Donnell, the level of readiness for missile defence forces will remain elevated “until the threat from ongoing indiscriminate Iranian attacks across the region decreases.”

He added that this is the first instance since the recent escalation in the Middle East that alliance forces have intercepted an Iranian missile targeting the airspace of a NATO member state.
