NATO chief says US nuclear umbrella guarantees Europe’s security

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has said that the US nuclear umbrella remains an “absolute guarantee” of security for European NATO member states.

Speaking in an interview with DPA, Rutte recalled that only a few European countries possess their own nuclear deterrent capabilities. He stressed that the United States’ commitment to NATO will remain in place even under President Donald Trump, Caliber.Az reports. 

According to Rutte, the US national security strategy continues to prioritise a secure Europe, a strong NATO alliance, and close cooperation among member countries.
