NATO's role in Ukraine conflict risks nuclear war Bundestag member warns
Sarah Wagenknecht, a Bundestag member and leader of the Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (BSW) party, has expressed concerns that increasing NATO involvement in the Ukraine conflict could provoke a nuclear response from Russia.
“If NATO becomes a party to the conflict in Ukraine, it will reach a point where Russia will target military facilities on NATO territory,” Wagenknecht stated in an interview with German newspaper, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
She cautioned that this could rapidly escalate into a nuclear conflict, as Russia is not at a disadvantage in this area compared to NATO. “It is dangerously reckless to allow ourselves to be pulled deeper into this conflict,” she added.
Wagenknecht highlighted that Russia has consistently indicated its opposition to U.S. military presence near its borders. She referenced the warnings from many Western politicians that Ukraine's integration into NATO military structures would lead to war.
“There were already 4,000 NATO troops in Ukraine before the conflict escalated, 12 CIA bases near Russia's borders, and joint exercises in the Black Sea,” she noted.
The politician emphasized that U.S. military influence in Ukraine was well underway, which is why Russia took preemptive measures before it deemed the situation “too late.”
