Qatar receives no requests to host meeting between Trump, Zelenskyy, Putin

Qatar has not received any requests to host a trilateral meeting in Doha between Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Majed bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, Advisor to the Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Ministry spokesperson, told TASS.

“At the moment, we do not have any special role in this matter. But Qatar always supports any efforts that can lead to the end of the war,” he said, responding to a question about whether representatives from the US, Ukraine, or Russia had approached Qatar with a proposal to hold a high-level trilateral meeting in Doha.

Al-Ansari noted that Qatar continues to act as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine on the issue of returning children taken from the conflict zone to their relatives.

According to him, the State Minister for International Cooperation at the Qatari Foreign Ministry, Mariam Al-Misnad, maintains regular communication with Moscow and Kyiv on the topic of reuniting children with their families.

Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and others, at the White House on August 18.

The discussions focused on security guarantees for Ukraine, with Trump confirming that Putin had agreed to accept such guarantees. Zelenskyy noted that a package of security guarantees, potentially including a significant purchase of American weapons, would be formalised within a week to ten days. Trump also announced plans for a trilateral meeting involving himself, Putin, and Zelenskyy, but the venue remains to be determined.
