Nearly 18% gas stations in France report fuel shortages

07 April 2026 13:01

On the morning of April 7, nearly one in five gas stations in France reported a shortage of at least one type of fuel as motorists refuelled following the Easter holiday weekend.

Government spokesperson Maud Bregeon said the risk of a widespread fuel shortage is absent and that “oil is arriving in France,” Caliber.Az reports, citing the Associated Press.

She added that supply disruptions at some stations were caused by transportation issues, which are currently being resolved.

Around 18% of stations were missing at least one type of fuel, with 83% of these affected sites operated by TotalEnergies, which has imposed price limits.

Over the weekend, some TotalEnergies stations saw long queues, as their fuel is often cheaper than that of other suppliers.

Bregeon noted that on April 7, around 900 trucks—hundreds more than usual—were heading to TotalEnergies stations to replenish supplies.

“There are no problems at the refineries. When trucks go to depots, they can load up with unleaded and diesel. We can expect a progressive improvement,” she added.
