Nearly 200 journalists killed in Gaza since start of conflict with Israel
The number of journalists died in Gaza since October 7, 2023, has risen to 195, following the death of journalist Mohammad Jabr al-Qarinawi, an editor at Sanad News Agency, according to Gaza's Government Media Office.
The office strongly condemned the targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists by Israeli forces, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
In a statement, it called on nations around the world to denounce these ongoing systematic crimes against Palestinian journalists and media workers in the Gaza Strip.
"We hold the Israeli occupation, the US administration, and the countries complicit in this crime of genocide, such as the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, fully responsible for committing this heinous, brutal crime," the office said.
Further urging global action, Gaza’s Government Media Office called on the international community, international organizations, and bodies related to journalism and media to condemn the crimes of the occupation. It stressed the need to restrain Israeli actions and prosecute the perpetrators in international courts for their continuous crimes. The office also demanded that international entities exert serious and effective pressure to halt the ongoing genocide and the targeted killing of Palestinian journalists.
In related news, Al Mayadeen also condemned the latest Israeli assault on journalists in Gaza. The media outlet extended its sincerest condolences to the family of the martyred journalist, Mohammad Baalousha, a correspondent for Al Mashhad Media, as well as to the broader journalistic community in Gaza and Palestine.
This escalation of violence against journalists highlights the ongoing dangers faced by the press in conflict zones, particularly in Gaza, where journalists continue to be deliberately targeted in the course of their work.
