Nearly 500 kilograms of heroin seized in Lithuania in largest-ever drug interception

Lithuanian authorities have seized almost 500 kilograms of heroin in what officials say is the country’s largest-ever interception of the drug.

The haul was discovered on November 14 during a joint operation by Lithuania’s Customs Criminal Service, the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and Latvia’s Tax and Customs Police. The heroin was concealed in a freight truck transiting through Lithuania near Vilnius, Caliber.Az reports via Lithuanian media. 

According to the Lithuanian Customs Service, the shipment—worth up to €40 million on the black market—was enough to produce nearly 8 million doses. Two truck drivers were detained and later placed under arrest by order of the Vilnius District Court.
