Netanyahu meets Gaza Board of Peace chief in Jerusalem
Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu has met in Jerusalem with the head of the Board of Peace for the Gaza Strip, Nikolay Mladenov, at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem.
The meeting was also attended by the US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, and businessman Michael Eisenberg, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.
Mladenov is expected to urge Israel to ease certain restrictions on the entry of humanitarian goods into Gaza and to scale back its military operations in the territory.
Mladenov has been engaged in weeks of discussions with Hamas leaders and has set an 11 April deadline for the group to accept the Board of Peace’s proposal to gradually disarm.
Hamas has largely rejected the demand to surrender its weapons.
Instead, the group has submitted a counterproposal, arguing that the issue of its arms should be addressed only within a broader framework leading to the establishment of a Palestinian state.
