Netherlands: Over 1.4 tonnes of cocaine seized at Rotterdam Port PHOTO
Dutch authorities have seized more than 1,400 kilograms of cocaine at the Port of Rotterdam. The majority of the drugs were reportedly concealed behind household belongings being shipped from Curaçao.
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) stated that customs officers noticed “irregularities” in three shipping containers, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The first container contained bags with 32 kilograms of cocaine, while the second held 177 kilograms spread across six suitcases.
However, the largest haul was found in a third container, which contained ordinary moving goods. Hidden behind these items were 35 bags, containing 1,199 packets of cocaine.
According to the OM, the intended recipients of the containers had no involvement in the smuggling operation. The seized drugs have since been destroyed.
