New coalition established in Iraq to form government
To form the government in Iraq, a new alliance was formed consisting of Shiites, Sunni, Kurds and Christians.
The alliance does not include the Shiite political and religious leader Muqtada es-Sadr and Turkmens who are known for their distant relations with Iran, according to TRT Haber.
In the statement made by the Shiite Coordination Framework on the subject, the groups in the alliance were said to have signed a joint political agreement.
The alliance's prime minister candidate is Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, a member of the Coordination Framework and former Minister of Labour.
It is expected that the parliament in Iraq will meet this week for the first time after about 2 months and elect the president.
The new president will also nominate a prime minister candidate for forming the government. Although 11 months have passed since the general elections held on October 10, 2021, in Iraq, the government is yet to be formed.
