New Latvian defence minister embarks on Kyiv trip

Latvia's newly appointed Minister of Defence, Inara Murniece, has arrived in Ukraine as part of her first visit to the country since taking office.

As reported by RBC-Ukraine, the Speaker of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada (Parliament), Ruslan Stefanchuk, stated during their joint appearance that Murniece has made a lot of efforts to support Ukraine in her previous role as Speaker of the Latvian Saeima (Parliament).

"We discussed the 'formula of peace' of President Vladimir Zelenskyy. I expressed hope for the active support of Latvia with the presented points. I thanked Latvia for providing Ukraine with weapons, ammunition and military equipment, because it is Latvia that is among the world leaders in terms of military assistance to us in relation to GDP", said Stefanchuk.

He further noted, that the sides also discussed further military support for Ukraine and Stefanchuck listed Kyiv's needs in order to continue the battle against Russia's invasion.
