New scheme-map unveils Baku’s transport vision for next 5 years Metro, tram lines

Transport pundit, metro specialist and engineer Azer Akhundov has prepared a special scheme-map, which reflects all aspects of the approved “State program on improvement of transport infrastructure in Baku and adjacent territories for 2025-2030”.

Speaking to Caliber.Az, Akhundov shared that the scheme-map reflects two Baku Metropolitan projects, which are currently being implemented - the depot “Darnagul” (marked as M-2), which is under construction, and the station with the conditional name “B-4” (marked on the map as M-3, - located on Jalil Mammadkulizada Street in the capital’s Nasimi district, behind the Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex, near Tbilisi Avenue, the Medical University, the Russian Embassy and Clinical Medical Centre No. 1, better known as Semashko Hospital).

It also depicts the continuation of the “Purple Line” of the metro from “B-4” to “Khatai” metro station and Babak Avenue, and the continuation of the “Green Line” from “Khatai” metro station along 8 November Avenue to “Azi Aslanov-2” station.

The scheme-map also shows a first-ever-look on the layout of the two new tram lines  - from Mehdiyabad settlement in the direction of “Azadliq Prospekt” metro station (with the prospect of extension to “28 May” metro station), as well as in Sea Breeze residential complex, as this is a new neighbourhood and construction of tram lines there can give a good result.

The scheme-map shows the planned new high-speed electric train lines from Zabrat to Vishnevka and Buzovna, as well as the “Yeni Surakhany - Govsan” and “Bina-Gala” lines. It is planned that in 2026-2028 the Bakikhanov - Bina-Gala railroad line will be rehabilitated. Furtehrmore, in 2028-2030, the Zabrat - Mashtaga - Baglar railroad line will be rehabilitated. And the Yeni Surakhany - Govsan railroad line will be rehabilitated in 2026-2027.

All these transport plans in Baku are planned to be realised by 2031.
