New tow trucks to aid ANAMA's mission in clearing mines

24 October 2024 19:35

The Agency for Mine Action of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) is set to purchase tow trucks as part of its ongoing efforts in demining operations.

ANAMA has initiated preparatory work for this acquisition, Caliber.Az reports referencing the unified internet portal for government procurement.

The agency plans to procure a total of 10 tow trucks, with a key requirement being that the vehicles must be manufactured in 2022. Additionally, the towing capacity of each truck must be 25 tons.

The estimated cost for these tow trucks is $1.47 million.

Established in 1998 by the Order of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, ANAMA was transformed into a legal entity of public law by a decree from President Ilham Aliyev on January 15, 2021. It serves as the principal executive body for mine action in Azerbaijan and coordinates all related activities within the country.

ANAMA's primary mission focuses on demining and clearing areas liberated from occupation and affected by war, while also promoting economic and humanitarian development in these regions.

In 2020, the Azerbaijani Army, under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, successfully ended a 30-year occupation of Karabakh. This event led to the reassignment of new tasks and responsibilities to ANAMA, including the development of technical capabilities, human resources, and operational methods. Notable innovations in demining practices have also been introduced, including the inclusion of women in these processes.

ANAMA’s dedicated personnel are committed to their mission, which is reflected in the official statistics released weekly and monthly. From October 14 to 20, a total of 200 anti-personnel mines, 49 anti-tank mines, and 763 unexploded ordnance were discovered and neutralized in various regions, including Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khankendi, Hojavend, Lachin, Shusha, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Jabrayil, and Zangilan.

To date, the agency has cleared 470.2 hectares of land from mines and unexploded ordnance, contributing to a safer environment for the local population.
