During a reception at the Qatari Embassy in Baku marking Qatar's National Day, Azerbaijan and Qatar pledged to strengthen their collaboration on environmental protection, with a particular emphasis on wildlife conservation and climate change mitigation.
Speaking at the event, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Mukhtar Babayev, emphasized Azerbaijan's dedication to environmental sustainability, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He outlined Azerbaijan's comprehensive efforts to tackle climate change, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in these areas.
Babayev also reflected on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Azerbaijan and Qatar in 2017, which focused on wildlife protection, noting the successful joint activities that have followed.
In addition, Babayev pointed to Azerbaijan's role as a neutral mediator at the recent COP29 climate conference, where the country facilitated fair and impartial negotiations, contributing to the success of the event.
The reception, attended by diplomatic figures, state officials, and cultural representatives, also saw remarks from Qatar's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mohammed Hamad Saad Al-Fuheid Al-Hajri. He highlighted Qatar’s ongoing development under the "Qatar 2030" vision, reinforcing the growing ties between Qatar and Azerbaijan. Al-Fuheid Al-Hajri also praised the successful hosting of the COP29 conference by Azerbaijan, further cementing the two nations' collaborative efforts on the global stage.
As both nations look towards further strengthening their partnership, the shared commitment to environmental protection remains at the forefront of their growing diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations.
