Azerbaijan transfers case against Armenian war criminals to Military Court
Azerbaijani lawyer Adem Mammadov has said that the case involving 15 Armenians accused of war crimes was transferred to the jurisdiction of Chairman of the Baku Military Court Zeynal Ahgayev.
He noted that his father, Maharram Mammadov, who was killed in the first Karabakh war, has been recognized as a victim of Armenian war criminals' actions. "I will participate in the trial as his legal successor", Adem Mammadov, who has been recognized as the legal successor of one of the victims in the criminal case, told Report, Caliber.Az informs.
Mammadov was killed by Armenian war criminals on August 24, 1993. The date for the preparatory court hearing will be announced in the coming days. The court will hear the criminal case involving the accused in 2,548 episodes.
Among those charged are Arkadi Ghukasyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, Bako Sahakyan, David Ishkhanyan, David Babayan, Leva Mnatsakanyan, David Manukyan, Garik Martirosyan, Melikset Pashayan, Davit Allahverdyan, Gurgen Stepanyan, Levon Balayan, Madat Babayan, Vasili Beglaryan, and Erik Kazaryan. The indictment in the criminal case was approved by the attorney general on December 16, 2024, and has been sent to the Baku Military Court for further proceedings.
In May 2024, by the decision of the Attorney General of Azerbaijan, 1,389 criminal cases, investigated by various law enforcement agencies between 1987 and 2024, were consolidated into a single case. The investigation was conducted by a team of investigators from the Prosecutor General's Office, the State Security Service, the Interior Ministry, the State Customs Committee, and the Military Prosecutor's Office.
Charges have been brought under 24 articles of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code, including planning and waging aggressive war, genocide, extermination of population, slavery, deportation, torture, mercenarism, terrorism, the creation of a criminal organisation, and etc.
