New Turkish ambassador visits key memorials in Baku, honours Heydar Aliyev, fallen heroes
The newly appointed Ambassador of Türkiye to Azerbaijan, Birol Akgün, has paid tribute to the national leader of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, by laying a wreath at his grave.
Ambassador Akgün then visited the Alley of Martyrs, where he honoured those who lost their lives for Azerbaijan's independence by placing flowers on their graves. He also laid a wreath at the 'Eternal Flame' memorial, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Additionally, the diplomat visited the memorial dedicated to Turkish soldiers in Baku, commemorating the heroic and selfless Turkish troops who fought for Azerbaijan’s independence.
Meanwhile, on February 13, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the credentials of Birol Akgün.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan appointed Birol Akgün as Türkiye’s new ambassador to Azerbaijan on January 11.
Prior to this appointment, Akgün served as the chairman of the Turkish Educational Foundation Maarif Vakfı.
