New UK PM: Trump, Zelenskyy to be among first calls
New British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said he would maintain the United Kingdom’s strong support for Ukraine and indicated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump would be among the first world leaders he contacts.
Asked after his speech in Downing Street whether he would first call Trump, Zelenskyy or another leader, Burnham said both would be among his initial calls, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He also said he would assure Zelenskyy that there would be "no change" in Britain’s support for Ukraine and that he would back the Ukrainian president "100%" as his predecessor, Keir Starmer, had done.
"President Zelenskyy will be left in no doubt whatsoever that Britain's support is steadfast, it is resolute. It will be there for him, and I will be there for him personally too," Burnham said.
