New York City police kill armed man in shootout PHOTO
An armed man was fatally shot by New York police on November 13 after he opened fire on officers following a string of armed confrontations in Manhattan, authorities said.
The man, who threatened civilians and police at multiple locations, died after being taken to a hospital in a police vehicle, according to Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera. Several officers were also transported for evaluation, Caliber.Az reports per AP.
Police said the incident began around 7 p.m. in an Upper East Side residential building, where the man pointed a gun at another individual inside an elevator. He then went to a nearby deli, aimed the weapon at a worker, and ordered him to call 911, claiming he was going to a hospital to shoot it up.
According to police, the man briefly entered Mount Sinai Medical Center, placed a firearm on the ground, left, then re-entered and told a police officer working a paid security shift that he was armed. When the officer attempted to escort him outside, a struggle ensued. The man retrieved his gun, prompting the officer to call for backup.

The man later encountered responding officers on the street. Rivera said he immediately opened fire as they exited their vehicles, prompting officers to return fire and hit him.
“Every day, our officers put on their uniforms and they encounter dangerous situations across this city. But it’s another kind of danger when someone goes into a deli and hospital with a gun and opens fire directly at the NYPD,” Rivera said.
Police did not release further details about the man’s identity.
