Next iPhone may feature edge-curving display, insiders reveal
Apple is expected to introduce a smartphone featuring a screen that is slightly curved at the edges, according to MacRumors.
Citing insider sources, the report says the US tech company has approached Samsung to order a batch of so-called Micro-Curved displays. The front panel would feature a gentle curvature at the corners, while the OLED panels are expected to be thinner and brighter than current models. Samsung is one of Apple’s key display suppliers.
The report claims Apple is aiming to integrate this type of screen in 2027, potentially aligning the launch with the 20th anniversary of the original iPhone. A device with curved edges is said to be more comfortable to hold, while also potentially reducing visual distortion at the edges of the display.
At the same time, Apple reportedly wants to avoid resembling earlier Samsung smartphones that featured strongly curved “waterfall” displays.
Previous rumors also suggest Apple is working on a special anniversary iPhone with a predominantly glass body.
