Nine injured in multi-car crash inside South Korean tunnel
Nine people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash involving five cars inside a highway tunnel in South Korea on Saturday, July 11, emergency services said.
The accident occurred at around 14:30 local time in the Kodok Tunnel in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, on the Sejong–Pocheon Expressway, according to broadcaster YTN.
Among the injured was a man in his 60s who was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest, with paramedics administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation en route.
Preliminary findings by police suggest the crash was triggered by a driver failing to maintain a safe distance amid traffic congestion, resulting in a chain-reaction collision. Authorities said tests showed none of the drivers was under the influence of alcohol.
Investigations into the circumstances of the accident are ongoing.
