No Indications US plans to leave NATO, says Germany’s defence chief

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has stated that he sees no indications that the United States is planning to leave NATO.

He made the remarks in an interview with Rheinische Post, responding to a question about whether he takes statements by US President Donald Trump seriously about a potential withdrawal.

“I assess policy by actions, not by words. At the moment, there are no signs that anything is moving in that direction,” Pistorius said.

At the same time, he noted that such a scenario cannot be entirely ruled out. “That is why I maintain my view: NATO must become more European in order to remain transatlantic,” the minister added.
