North Korea criticises US military aid to Ukraine, backs Russia in conflict

A top North Korean military official has criticized the United States for its increasing military support to Ukraine, reaffirming the country's support for Moscow in the ongoing conflict.

The US and South Korea have expressed concerns over the growing military ties between North Korea and Russia, accusing them of violating international laws through arms trading. Both Moscow and Pyongyang have denied these accusations, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

Last week, a pact signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during Putin’s visit to Pyongyang committed both nations to provide immediate military assistance to each other in the event of armed aggression.

Pak Jong-chon, a top North Korean military official, stated that Russia has the “right to opt for any kind of retaliatory strike” and warned that continued US support for Ukraine could provoke a stronger response from Moscow, potentially leading to a “new world war.”

Senior officials from South Korea, the US, and Japan condemned the military cooperation between North Korea and Russia in a joint statement released on Monday. Reports also suggest that North Korea plans to send construction and engineering forces to Russian-occupied territories in Ukraine next month for rebuilding efforts.
