North Korea's leader calls for "second revolution" in armoured vehicle production

04 May 2025 13:53

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has inspected a major tank manufacturing plant, praising recent advances in armoured vehicle development and calling for a renewed push to modernise the country’s defence industry.

Kim Jong-un reviewed the facility’s work on the production, research, and modernisation of tank technologies. He underscored the importance of upgrading the armoured fleet of the Korean People’s Army ground forces, describing it as a vital component of military development, Caliber.Az reports, citing North Korean media.

"The innovative upgrades to the latest active protection systems, passive defence technologies, and electronic warfare complexes, as well as the development of an integrated power transmission system, represent significant progress in the development of key tank technologies," Kim was quoted as saying.

KCNA noted that the North Korean leader highly praised the contributions of engineers and scientists working at the plant.

“Comrade Kim Jong-un pointed out that, at a time when both subjective and objective conditions have changed, it is necessary to clearly define the military function and role of tanks in modern warfare and determine the direction of their future development,” the report said.

Kim also declared the Workers' Party of Korea’s intention to carry out what he called a "second revolution" in armoured vehicle production. He stressed the need to accelerate the modernisation of the country's defence industrial facilities to achieve this goal.
