North Korean leader checks combat readiness of elite special forces unit

02 November 2025 10:46

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited the command of the 11th Corps of the Korean People’s Army, considered one of the elite units, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.

The corps is part of the special operations forces. During the visit, the North Korean leader observed a training exercise by special forces soldiers, who, according to KCNA, “demonstrated unparalleled courage and spirit.” Kim Jong Un also posed for photos with the troops and expressed satisfaction with their level of combat readiness.

The soldiers reportedly greeted the leader “with the highest sense of respect,” KCNA noted. Kim Jong Un emphasized that the heroism and fighting spirit of the corps’ soldiers serve as an example for the entire army.

During the visit, the head of state reviewed the work of the headquarters, listened to a report from the corps commander on operational plans under various conditions, and visited the operational planning office.

According to Kim Jong Un, ideology is a key factor in determining the outcome of military operations. He highlighted the importance of political officers and outlined strategic tasks for strengthening the special forces. Plans to enhance the “core forces of the army” are expected to be discussed at a meeting of the Central Military Commission.
