Norway delivers NASAMS missiles to Ukraine as Russian strikes continue
Norway has delivered a significant shipment of missiles for Ukraine’s NASAMS air defence systems, the Norwegian government said on January 22, as Kyiv continues to defend its cities against Russian strikes.
“Russia’s relentless missile attacks on Ukraine continue. Norway has recently delivered a significant number of air defence missiles to Ukraine to ensure that the Norwegian-developed NASAMS system can continue to protect Ukraine,” Norwegian Defence Minister Tore O. Sandvik said on X.
The announcement followed Sandvik’s first meeting with Ukraine’s new Defence Minister, Mykhailo Fedorov.

A spokesperson for the Norwegian Ministry of Defence said air defence remained a priority in Norway’s military support to Ukraine.
Ukraine has received NASAMS systems from a number of countries, including the United States, Canada, Lithuania, and Norway. The systems have proven highly effective against Russian missiles.
"Through cooperation with the United States and others, Norway has quickly delivered air defence missiles to Ukraine at a critical stage so that the NASAMS system can continue to protect Ukrainian citizens from deadly air strikes," said Defence Minister Tore O. Sandvik.
"The Ukrainians are exposed to missile and drone attacks almost every night. Right now, large parts of Kyiv are without heating, water or electricity due to Russian attacks. I met with President Zelensky in Kyiv last week, and this is exactly the kind of help they need to protect themselves against these attacks," said Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.
