Norway detains Russian vessel on suspicion of undersea cable damage

31 January 2025 17:25

Norwegian authorities have detained the vessel Silver Dania, with a Russian crew, on suspicion of damaging an undersea cable in the Baltic Sea.

The Silver Dania was detained by Norwegian authorities at the request of Latvia, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

The Norwegian police are interrogating the crew, who are suspected of causing damage to an undersea cable connecting Latvia and Sweden.

Meanwhile, Tormod Fossmark, CEO of Silver Sea, stated that the vessel had passed near the Swedish island of Gotland but had not anchored there.

"We did nothing wrong. The Norwegian authorities brought our ship to port to rule out any involvement in the damage to the cable," he said.
