Norwegian crown princess’s son may be freed over mother’s illness
The son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Marius Borg Høiby, may be temporarily released from custody to allow his family to meet doctors regarding his mother’s condition, his lawyer Petar Sekulic said in an interview with TV2.
Earlier, the Royal Palace announced that the Crown Princess had been placed on the waiting list for a lung transplant due to pulmonary fibrosis. The disease was initially detected at an early stage eight years ago, but, according to the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation NRK, it worsened last autumn.
On June 5, Sekulic said the defense team had asked prosecutors to release Høiby from custody, but the request was denied. “The police did not lift a finger, but the Norwegian Correctional Service stepped in and proposed his temporary release,” the lawyer said.
According to Sekulic, police authorities have not objected to a temporary release. As reported by TV2, Høiby is expected to attend a medical meeting. Journalists note that if the “leave” is granted, he will be accompanied by law enforcement officers.
