Norwegian police: Explosion at US Embassy in Oslo may be deliberate
Norwegian authorities believe that the explosion near the U.S. embassy in Oslo was likely a deliberate act connected to the escalating situation in the Middle East, NRK reports.
Frode Larsen, head of Oslo police’s investigative unit, said the blast occurred overnight on March 8, causing minor injuries and property damage.
“Given the current security situation, it is natural to consider that this may have been an intentional attack on the U.S. embassy,” Larsen stated.
He added that the suspects’ identities have not yet been established, and police are actively searching for one or more perpetrators while working closely with the embassy.
“One of our hypotheses is terrorism, but we are also considering other possibilities,” Larsen said.
The Norwegian Police Security Service has not changed its assessment of the terrorist threat level following the incident.
