Novruz festivities in Rabat embassy bring Azerbaijani diaspora together
The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Morocco has hosted a Novruz celebration in Rabat, bringing together members of the Azerbaijani diaspora to mark one of the country’s most important holidays.
The event was held on Novruz's Eve, which is the final Tuesday before the equinox in Azerbaijan (March 17 in 2026) and welcomed around 50 guests, local media reports citing the diplomatic mission.
The festivities aimed to promote Azerbaijani cultural traditions while reinforcing a sense of unity among the community that resides in the North African country.
The programme placed particular emphasis on engaging younger attendees.
“The event was particularly interesting and memorable for children. They were told about the symbol of Novruz – the sprouting seed, the tradition of ‘papagatma’, jumping over bonfires, Novruz dances, and were visually introduced to the country’s national customs,” the embassy described in their statement.
Guests were also offered a selection of traditional Azerbaijani cuisine, including desserts such as shekerbura, pakhlava, as well as main courses like dolma and plov, highlighting the culinary heritage associated with the holiday.
The embassy noted that such gatherings play an important role in promoting Azerbaijani culture abroad while strengthening solidarity among members of the diaspora.
