NYP: Authorities seek home security footage as retired general vanishes in New Mexico
Authorities in New Mexico have reached out to over 600 residents to collect home security footage and information as the mysterious disappearance of retired Air Force General and UFO researcher William Neil McCasland enters its 11th day. McCasland, 68, vanished from his Albuquerque home on February 28, leaving his phone behind, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.
“Investigators have contacted more than 600 homeowners in the neighborhood near Mr McCasland’s residence to request security camera footage or information,” a police spokesperson told The New York Post (NYT).
“To date, no sightings have been reported.”
Local authorities, working alongside the FBI, have received dozens of tips, though none have yet led to confirmed sightings or directly located McCasland. “While none have resulted in a confirmed sighting or led directly to Mr. McCasland’s location, investigators are continuing to follow up on every piece of information received,” police said.
A Silver Alert has been issued for the retired general. However, investigative journalist Ross Coulthart has described the case as a “grave national security crisis,” noting McCasland’s knowledge of highly sensitive US programs. “This is a man with some of the most sensitive secrets of the United States in his head,” Coulthart said on his Reality Check podcast. “The timing is screechingly relevant. The fact that Gen. Neil McCasland has disappeared off the face of the earth is a grave national security crisis for the United States of America.”
McCasland’s disappearance follows shortly after President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he was directing the Department of Defense to prepare for the release of files related to UFOs and extraterrestrial phenomena.
During his military career, McCasland oversaw classified programs at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, including research into space weapons, according to Coulthart. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward as the investigation intensifies.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office has provided a Silver Alert with McCasland’s description and encourages residents with relevant information to report tips immediately.
