“Object not found”: Lithuania calls off hunt for border-crossing drone on May 21
Lithuanian authorities have terminated the search operation for a drone that violated the country’s airspace last Thursday, May 21, the Lithuanian Armed Forces said.
All possible crash sites in the Panevėžys and Utena counties were inspected, but the object was not found. “The object was not found,” the statement said, according to foreign media.
At the same time, the military urged residents who may discover debris or suspicious objects not to approach or touch them and to immediately report them via emergency number 112.
Citizens were also advised not to photograph any findings or share them on social media, and to rely only on official information.
On May 21, an air alert was issued in Utena County after radar systems detected an object resembling a drone. Later, the National Crisis Management Centre (NKVC) reported a second similar object that also disappeared from radar.
Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas previously said radar systems had tracked two drone-like objects, both of which vanished in the Utena area.
