Odesa to welcome Azerbaijani Park as symbol of friendship and culture PHOTO

Odesa is set to add a new cultural landmark to its cityscape — the Azerbaijani Park — following a preliminary agreement announced by Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov.

Sharing the news on his social media page, Trukhanov highlighted the city's tradition of celebrating international friendship through urban spaces, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

“Odesa has a wonderful tradition of parks created by our friends — the Istanbul and Greek Parks. Now, the Azerbaijani Park will join them,” he wrote.

The idea for the park, first envisioned back in 2013, has now been revived with full backing from the Azerbaijani diaspora, who will fully finance the project. Plans for the park were discussed in detail during a recent meeting between the mayor and members of the Azerbaijani community.

According to Ayaz Aliyev, a board member of the Azerbaijani cultural organisation “Birlik,” the park will offer a blend of beauty, heritage, and leisure. It will feature what is intended to be the most stunning fountain in Odesa, a museum showcasing Azerbaijani history and culture, a children’s play and recreation area, a modern sports ground, and a specially designed photo zone called “Azerbaijan.” The park will span a total area of 3.15 hectares.

Also present at the meeting was Jalil Astanov, the acting head of “Birlik.” Representatives of the diaspora confirmed that the design of the park has been coordinated with the mayor, and construction is expected to begin in the coming days.

The Azerbaijani Park promises to become not only a new green space for residents but also a living tribute to cultural ties and mutual respect between Odesa and the Azerbaijani community.
