Official: UAE became Iran’s main target due to its prosperity
The United Arab Emirates has become the primary target of Iranian attacks in the region, according to Lana Nusseibeh, who argued that the country’s openness and economic success are viewed by Iran as a threat.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Nusseibeh, who serves as Assistant Minister for Political Affairs and envoy to the foreign minister, said Iran has launched more than 2,200 missiles and drones at the UAE. She noted that this figure exceeds the total number of attacks directed at Israel and other Persian Gulf countries combined.
“More than 60% of the attacks were directed at the UAE. And this is the fundamental question: why?” she said.
Nusseibeh stressed that the UAE did not initiate hostilities in the region. “We did not ask for war in our region. We did not start the war,” she said, adding that Tehran had opted for military escalation instead of engaging in negotiations with Washington over its nuclear and missile programs.
Criticising Iran’s domestic and foreign policies, she said the country possesses significant resources across three continents but fails to translate them into stability for its population. “Their own people suffer from inflation, their currency is losing value, and protesters are being killed en masse,” Nusseibeh stated.
