Official: Ukraine forces Russia to abandon main goal of seizing Kyiv
Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhnyi has said that Ukraine managed to force Russia to abandon its main goal of seizing Kyiv.
"The Ukrainian military managed to force the Russian invaders to abandon their main goal to seize Kyiv city," RBC-Ukraine reports, citing a statement of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The senior military official described the first month of the Russia-Ukraine war as a turning point.
"We clearly understood that the first month would be a turning point. We managed to deprive the enemy of the strategic initiative, inflict heavy losses, force the invaders to abandon the main goal to seize Kyiv," the commander-in-chief added.
Zaluzhnyi noted that today the Ukrainian Armed Forces not only protect the positions, but also took several successful counter-offensive actions.
"We managed to unblock Ukraine’s Kharkiv and Mykolaiv cities, the hostilities are underway in Kherson city," he added.
