OIC hails US-Iran ceasefire as step toward regional stability
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed the announcement of a temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran, describing it as a positive step toward de-escalation in the region.
In a statement on its X account, the OIC emphasized that the ceasefire represents an opportunity that must be leveraged for a serious negotiation process capable of addressing the root causes of the crisis and achieving a lasting and comprehensive cessation of hostilities, Caliber.Az reports.

“The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomes the announcement of the agreement on a temporary ceasefire between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is a positive step towards de- escalation in the region and an opportunity that must be seized to move towards a serious negotiation process capable of addressing the root causes of the crisis and leading to a permanent and comprehensive cessation of hostilities, whilst adhering to the provisions of international law, respect for state sovereignty and good-neighbourly relations, guarantees freedom of navigation, prevents the resurgence of tension, and strengthens the pillars of regional security and stability,” the statement said.
The OIC also commended the contributions of its member states in reducing tensions and highlighted Pakistan’s key role.
“The General Secretariat commends the valuable efforts made by the Member States of the OIC to de-escalate the situation, and appreciates the effective role played by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, in particular the efforts of H.E. the Prime Minister, Mr Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, to reach the agreement,” the organization added.
