Oil-containing fluid surfaces at Uzbekistan oil field
An oil-containing fluid has surfaced in the Baysun district of Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region at the M-25 oil field.
According to the Uzbek Ministry of Energy, the incident occurred in late December 2025, Caliber.Az reports via Uzbek media.
The ministry said that additional protective settling ponds were promptly constructed around the site and along the bed of a nearby stream to prevent the spread of the oil-containing liquid. The collected fluid is being regularly transported to a designated facility equipped with two isolated sludge reservoirs, each with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters, ensuring safe storage and potential further use of the raw material.
All work is being carried out in compliance with industrial and environmental safety requirements. Specialists are currently analysing samples of the oil-containing fluid, after which options for its processing will be considered. Geological surveys at the site are ongoing.
“The situation is under constant monitoring, and the release of the oil-containing liquid has been localised. Cleanup operations are also underway in channels where part of the fluid entered during the first days after the incident,” the ministry added.
