Oman rescues 23 sailors after ship attack, one crew member still missing

Omani emergency services have rescued 23 crew members from the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy, which was involved in an incident in the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Musandam province, according to TASS, citing the Sultanate’s Maritime Security Centre.

“Emergency services responded to a distress signal sent by the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy, sailing under the flag of the Republic of Cyprus. Twenty-three crew members were successfully rescued,” the center said in a statement.

Authorities said the incident occurred approximately 4.4 nautical miles off the coast.

The rescued sailors have received the necessary medical assistance. A search-and-rescue operation remains underway for one crew member who is still listed as missing.
