Orbán backs Trump's Ukraine peace efforts
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán addressed US President Donald Trump regarding the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, urging him to “keep going.”
The Hungarian leader published the corresponding message on February 21 on the social media platform X, per Caliber.Az.
"Without American involvement, there is no realistic path to peace in the Russia–Ukraine war. Tragically, Brusselian Europeans are currently incapable of bringing us closer to peace and are busy playing with fire instead," he wrote.
“Hungary stands with you. Keep going, Mr. President!” Orbán added.
Orbán attached a video to the post, where he elaborates on these points, emphasizing U.S. leadership as essential and criticizing EU approaches as counterproductive and escalatory.
This statement follows Orbán's recent participation in the inaugural meeting of Trump's "Board of Peace" in Washington on February 19, 2026. The Board—initiated by Trump—focuses on global conflict resolution, starting with Gaza but expanding discussions to Ukraine. Orbán attended alongside representatives from over 45 countries/entities.
