Orbán: Trump's election victory would benefit Europe
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has stated that a victory for former US President Donald Trump in the upcoming November 5 elections and his return to the White House would be advantageous for the European Union, despite acknowledging that it may not be the ideal option economically for Europe.
In an interview with the news portal The Pioneer on October 14 during his visit to Berlin, Orbán made it clear that he is the only politician in the European Union openly backing Trump. “If he wins, it will be good for Europe, for all peace-loving people in Europe,” said Orbán, referencing Trump’s previous term in office, Caliber.Az reports.
The Hungarian prime minister highlighted that under Trump's administration, the world saw fewer international conflicts compared to the current US leadership under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. “There were no such intense international conflicts under Republican Trump as there are now under the Democratic administration,” Orbán stated.
However, Orbán admitted that from an economic perspective, Trump “is not the ideal option” for Europe. He warned that a potential Trump victory would likely lead to challenging trade negotiations between the US and the EU. “Our interests do not always align,” he reminded.
Despite the economic challenges, Orbán expressed confidence that Trump would vigorously protect US interests if reelected. “The question is, we Europeans must also defend our interests more resolutely,” he concluded.
