Over 1,000 ships face navigation issues in Persian Gulf amid Iran tensions
02 March 2026 10:38
More than a thousand vessels in the Persian Gulf have experienced navigation difficulties due to electronic warfare activity, The Insider reports, citing analysts from Starboard Maritime Intelligence.
Since February 28, around 1,000 civilian ships have faced serious GPS disruptions, confirmed by maritime monitoring data and noticeable route deviations on electronic charts.
The interference is linked to active use of electronic warfare (EW) systems by coastal states in the region. Signal disruptions may originate not only from Iran but also from the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
At least two ships in the area were reportedly attacked over the past 24 hours.
