Over 700 Azerbaijani immigrants on US deportation list, ICE confirms
Azerbaijan is among the countries listed in the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation list for November 2024, with 709 Azerbaijani nationals included.
This information was reported by local media, referencing an ICE document revealed by Fox News, per Caliber.Az.
The list, which contains nearly 1.5 million illegal immigrants residing in the US, includes individuals who have received deportation orders from immigration courts under the Department of Justice. However, these individuals remain in the country and are not in custody, according to ICE.
The majority of those on the deportation list are from Latin American countries, with the highest numbers coming from Honduras (261,651), Guatemala (253,413), Mexico (252,044), and El Salvador (203,822). The list also includes 337 individuals with Soviet passports and 845 holding passports from the former Yugoslavia.
Experts suggest that many of these deportees are from Mexico and the "Northern Triangle" countries (Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador), likely targeted during the mass deportations initiated under the Donald Trump administration due to concerns over public safety.
Despite the final deportation orders, ICE acknowledges that there are several challenges in enforcing these orders. Many of those listed are under non-detainee supervision, and the deportation process can be delayed due to several factors.
Foreign nationals can seek protection from deportation through avenues such as asylum, withholding of removal, or protection under the Convention against Torture. If any form of protection is granted, ICE cannot carry out the deportation. Another complicating factor is when the country of origin refuses to accept deported individuals.
