Over 75 killed in Gaza as Israel intensifies military campaign VIDEO

16 May 2025 15:48

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported conducting airstrikes on more than 150 "terror targets" in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours.

These targets included anti-tank missile launch posts, cells of operatives, and buildings utilized by terror groups to carry out attacks on Israeli forces. The IDF emphasized that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle Hamas' infrastructure and reduce its operational capabilities, Caliber.Az reports citing Israeli media.

In addition to aerial strikes, the IDF's 252nd Division engaged in ground operations in northern Gaza, resulting in the elimination of several operatives at an observation post. The Gaza Division destroyed multiple tunnel shafts and other infrastructure in Rafah, while the 36th Division targeted Hamas operatives attempting to plant a bomb in the Morag Corridor area. These actions are part of a broader strategy to degrade Hamas' military capabilities and enhance security along Israel's borders.

Palestinian media outlets report that over 75 individuals have been killed in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip since this morning. However, these figures cannot be independently verified and do not distinguish between civilians and combatants. The humanitarian situation remains dire, with ongoing concerns over civilian casualties and the availability of essential services in the region.

The IDF has stated that it will continue its operations as necessary to protect Israeli civilians and to dismantle Hamas's military infrastructure. The international community continues to call for restraint and adherence to international humanitarian law to minimize civilian harm and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed his commitment to escalating military operations in the Gaza Strip, aiming to dismantle Hamas and achieve Israel's strategic objectives. In a statement released earlier this week, Netanyahu declared that Israeli forces are "days away from entering Gaza with great strength to complete the mission," emphasizing that this mission entails the complete destruction of Hamas.

An Israeli official indicated that the recent airstrikes serve as preparatory actions for a larger operation and as a message to Hamas that intensified military action will commence unless there is an agreement to release hostages.

The Israeli government has made it clear that it will continue its military campaign until all objectives are met, including the elimination of Hamas, the return of Israeli hostages, and the removal of threats emanating from Gaza.

As the conflict persists, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with significant casualties reported and ongoing challenges in delivering aid to those in need.
