Pakistan leverages transit potential amid looming energy crunch
05 April 2026 12:06
Pakistan’s Karachi port has seen record traffic this month, surpassing last year’s total, as vessels reroute from the Strait of Hormuz amid regional tensions.
The nation faces a worsening fuel shortage ahead of peak summer demand, with LNG deliveries set to nearly halt from April and only 24 days of fuel reserves on hand, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
War risk insurance costs have jumped more than tenfold and shipping rates have quadrupled.
Authorities have rolled out weekly fuel price adjustments, restricted load shedding, increased electricity tariffs, and intensified diplomatic efforts to secure rerouted shipments and reduce regional tensions.
