Pakistan pledges unconditional support for Saudi Arabia

Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to support Saudi Arabia whenever necessary, underscoring the close strategic and defence ties between the two countries at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg TV, the spokesperson for Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Mosharraf Zaidi, said Pakistan’s support for the kingdom is firm and not dependent on specific circumstances.

“There is no question we might — we will, no matter what and no matter when,” Zaidi said. “Both countries, even before the defence agreement, have always operated on the principle of being there for the other.”

His comments came against the backdrop of a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in September 2025. Under the terms of the agreement, any aggression against one of the two countries would be treated as an attack on both.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the landmark accord during an official visit to Riyadh, where he held talks with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman at Al-Yamamah Palace.

The agreement is aimed at expanding defence cooperation, strengthening joint deterrence capabilities, and enhancing regional and global security through closer military coordination.

During the visit, the two leaders also reviewed the long-standing partnership between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which has developed over nearly eight decades. They reiterated their shared commitment to promoting regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
